I loved the author’s idea of using pictures, sounds and hand motions to help children remember the sounds we use in our language. It is so interesting that after learning just a few sounds and blending them into words, a child has a widened vocabulary of over 50 words!I especially loved that the author encourages parents to start with sounds, and when the child is ready they will blend the sounds into words. She understands that learning is different for each child, but can be fun and educational at the same time.One thing I feel could be improved was that some of the hand motions used with the sounds seemed inconsistent with the sound of the letter or with the animal. But overall, it was an easy and fun read!I would recommend this book to parents with children learning to read and will definitely use this method with my own child!Source: I received a digital copy of this book from the author.
We also own 100 lessons and the Montessori letters book and this is the one that's gotten the most traction with my three year old. He's engaged and seems to remember the sounds of the letters compared to the other books we own. I especially like that it helps the parents out with the correct pronunciation. We keep it short and simple, just a few pages every few days.
I absolutely love this book. It has been such an easy way to teach my daughter the phonetic sounds of each letter and have learning to read be a fun process. Now that I have a 2 year old son we are using it to teach him as well. He gets such a kick out of the movements linked with the sound of each letter that I have even caught him(on our video monitor) doing the sounds and motions in his crib as he winds down prior to falling asleep. I have recommended this to several friends and will continue to do so.
We have been working with my just turned 4 year old daughter to learn her letters for the last 3 months. Nothing has seemed to stick. We’ve tried traditional ABC books, puzzles, flash cards, and wipe clean letter books. We got this book and within 3 days she now knows all her letter sounds and is able to read the words in the book. Sometimes it just takes a different style of learning. This book was exactly what my daughter needed! Can’t recommend this book enough!
I saw this book on Instagram and knew immediately that I needed it. As a former elementary school teacher, I'm always looking for things that hit multiple learning styles. We've been working on letters with my 3 year old for a while, and traditional methods haven't held his interest outside of the letters of his name, but he is ALL over the letters with actions. The actions are so clever, and I love that the words pair letter and picture together to help connect the sounds more visually.We've worked on this about five times, and the sounds are memorable! This won't teach them to read in 10 minutes (nothing will), but it certainly lays a foundation for fun and engaging phonics - essential tools for teaching reading without pulling teeth. Anything that makes learning hands on is a win in my book!I wish there were a few more instructions on how to guide kids to put the sounds together. I'm familiar because I'm a teacher, but I think it would be really helpful for any parent!
I love it! My kids love it! 8 year old loves it and she knows how to read (really well). I’m excited to share this with my nieces and nephews and friends because I’m pretty sure they’re going to absolutely love it too. Beautiful pictures! It would be great to get this spiral bound to teach it to a preschool class so they can see the pictures. I could see this being a great preschool program and supplementing with magnet letters for the kids to make the different words. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I think this book will help soooo many kids learn to read. It’s a GrEAT tool at an amazing price. You’ll save yourself and the kids you teach lot of time and frustration and see a whole lot more success with this $13 purchase... so inexpensive for such an amazing book! This book is an amazing resource for beginning phonics!! We incorporated a couple pages at a time into our morning routine and it has been a huge hit with my kids! All three (ages 5.5, 3.5, and 2) love it! My 5 year old already knew the letter sounds but still loves it. I started using this mostly for my 3.5 year old but my 2 year now brings this book to me several times a day and knows most of the sound/movement combinations! It's been such a pleasant surprise to have him engage so well with it, especially since he was a delayed talker. I can't say enough good things about ABC See Hear Do! Just buy it and get started! Your kids can have fun while learning!
This book is very cheaply made and doesn't make a lot of sense. I am an educator and I don't understand the good reviews this book has received. It is not useful. Some of the sounds and movements associated with letters in the book make sense, but others don't. In addition, I don't want my child to associate making weird movements with learning to read.
